Rigging & Trussing

What does professional rigging involve?

Professional rigging means designing and installing overhead truss, lighting bars, LED structures, and banners within a calculated safe working load, inspecting all hardware before use, and having trained personnel on site. Eagles AV plans every rig around the actual load it will carry, with margin built in, because rigging failures are rare precisely because the industry does not treat “looks secure” as good enough.

Anything suspended over a stage, an audience, or a walkway carries real risk if it is not engineered properly. That includes lighting rigs, LED walls, speaker clusters, banners, and decorative truss. We treat rigging as a safety discipline first and a visual one second, because the visual only matters if the structure is sound.

Working load limits, explained simply

Every piece of rigging hardware, truss, chain hoists, slings, shackles, has a Working Load Limit (WLL), the maximum weight it should ever carry in normal use. This is not the same as the point where it would actually break. WLL is set with a safety margin already built in, commonly a ratio of several times the breaking strength, specifically so that normal use never gets close to failure.

We calculate the actual load for your specific rig, lighting fixtures, an LED wall, speaker clusters, banners, and design the truss and hardware to stay well within its rated limit, not at the edge of it. A rig that “should be fine” is not a rig we install. A rig that is calculated, rated, and within limit is.

Inspection and testing

Rigging hardware degrades with use, and the only way to know its real condition is to check it, not assume it. Before every event we inspect truss sections, chain hoists, slings, shackles, and connection points for wear, damage, or deformation, and any piece that does not pass is taken out of service immediately, no exceptions.

New or repaired lifting equipment is proof tested before first use, loaded beyond its working limit under controlled conditions to confirm it performs as rated. This is standard rigging practice internationally, and it is exactly what protects against the rare but serious failures that happen when equipment is simply trusted rather than verified.

What we rig

Rigging rarely works alone, it supports staging, lighting, and LED screens, so we plan it as part of the full build, not as a separate afterthought.

“From concept to execution, Eagles AV handled our hybrid conference flawlessly. Both our in-person and virtual attendees had an amazing experience. Their 7 years of expertise really shows.”

Trained personnel on site

Rigging is carried out and supervised by people trained in load calculation and safe rigging practice, not general event staff asked to help lift something. On the day, a qualified person oversees the rig from installation through to dismantling, checking connection points and confirming everything holds its rated position before the event starts.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Question

What is a Working Load Limit?

It is the maximum weight a piece of rigging hardware should carry in normal use, set well below the point where it would actually fail, so there is always a safety margin.

Yes. Truss sections, hoists, slings, shackles, and connection points are inspected before use, and anything showing wear or damage is taken out of service immediately.

LED wall structures, speaker flying systems, banners and signage, and decorative or structural truss for stage design.

Yes, rigging is usually planned as part of the wider stage, lighting, or LED build rather than booked separately, though it can be hired on its own.

Yes, across Kenya, with personnel and equipment transported to the venue.
